Yeah it was Aerosmith’s legacy of football field damage that prevented further rock concerts on the outdoors at Wayland High. Just think, with our Swedish connections(elementary and junior high choruses singing with ABBA on the “Voulez Vous” tour) why we could’nt we have had Ah-Ha play at WHS! Alas, they would not succumb to playing in our ‘Little Theater’(Where was our ‘Big’ one?), its paltry seating, and lack of appropriate dance floor with cool lighting they passed us up! Just think, those Swedish one hit wonders (Ah-Ha, remember?) could’ve become hit monsters like Aerosmith if they hadn’t by our li’l launchpad to superstardom that is WHS facilities and venues!
You know, in my waitressing days I once served Steven Tyler. After a nice little conversation about carrot juice and vegan banana nut bread (man that dude is thin), I actually asked him about this ill fated gig. He laughed to himself and said something like, “yeah, that was wild”. Now there is a conversation starter……
